Margate, Pembroke Pines closing in on city centers

After years of inaction, the proposed city center sites in Margate and Pembroke Pines may be close to seeing some development. Margate's community redevelopment agency is in talks with Tampa Bay developer DeBartolo Development to become the master developer of the 38 acres along U.S. 441 and Margate Boulevard. Pembroke Pines, city commissioners approved this week the sale of 27 of the 100-plus acres where the city has for years wanted to build a government-planned hub.
